The Johns Island Council is a citizens group that serves as a liaison between island residents and local government. Members include Johns Island residents, property owners and business owners, and a voting representative from Wadmalaw Island.
The Johns Island Council regularly communicates residents' perspectives on transportation, facilities and infrastructure projects. Its members also attend public hearings to express support for or concerns about specific development projects, zoning and environment ordinances and other matters affecting island residents. The Johns Island Council also hosts presentations by civic groups, developers and municipal planners as well as forums for political candidates. The regular monthly meetings, which are open to the public, are held at the Berkeley Electric Coop on Maybank Highway at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month.
